Since 1997, the Christian Center Groningen has been housed in this beautiful building at Johan de Wittstraat 2. As members of the congregation, we have dedicated ourselves to minor maintenance and cleaning for many years. This created a pleasant meeting place that we look back on fondly. In recent years, we have taken steps to carry out major maintenance on the exterior of the building. Now, major maintenance is needed for a vital part of our building: the entrance to the church hall, the kitchen within it, and the sound system and translation facilities. At least €100,000 is needed for this, of which the 50 active members of the congregation have jointly contributed the first €33,000. Therefore, we are now asking everyone to help us raise the funds needed for this renovation.

"We are raising money to preserve this place for this and future generations"

before and after

What picture do we have in mind?

The building that houses CCG was built in 1955. The kitchen in the church hall is used to serve coffee and prepare meals. This kitchen has been in place since 1997, for approximately 28 years.
Structural engineers have identified problems with the floor near the kitchen and storage area. This is noticeable because the floor moves when people walk on it.
Furthermore, the kitchen needs to be larger, making it easier to accommodate more people simultaneously. Adjacent to the kitchen is a soundproof room where the interpreter can sit. This room needs to be better positioned to improve visibility and comfort for the interpreter. The technical staff, who operate the projector and sound system during services, also need an upgrade to perform their work properly.

In the currently planned renovation, we will primarily focus on the flooring and rebuilding the various rooms. Secondly, we will consider possible finishing options. This will depend on the amount of donations received by then.

phasing

the renovation

By carrying out the renovation in phases, we see the following advantages:
1. By starting at the back, near the storage room, daily activities in the church can continue as usual, as the kitchen and translation room can still be used.
2. By first opening up the rear floor, we can examine and experiment from there with the possibilities for the restoration. These experiences will be useful in the subsequent phases.
3. The next phase will only begin when practical conditions allow. This concerns not only the finances, but also the availability of the necessary materials and personnel.

Planning and Budget

For now, we anticipate the complete renovation to take place between September 2025 and June 2026. We propose the following schedule:
1. Quarter 3 of 2025 (August-Sept):
Destroying the storage room and investigating what is needed to repair the floor.
2. Quarter 4 of 2025 (Oct-Dec):
Repairing the foundation and constructing a new wall between the storage room, the translation booth, and the kitchen. Behind the wall with the kitchen, the plumbing for the new kitchen will be prepared. Combined, Phase 1 would be completed.
The budget for Phase 1 is €25,000.
3. Q1 of 2026 (Jan-Mar 2026):
Phase 2: Demolish old kitchen, tear up floor, install new floor, and install new walls and kitchen.
A budget of €50,000 has been allocated for this phase.
4. Q2 of 2026 (Apr-June 2026):
Start of phase 3: The foyer floor surrounding the kitchen and the furnishings of the main hall will now be tackled.
A budget of €25,000 has been allocated for this phase, but more money is needed to incorporate more high-quality materials into the furnishings.
Renovations often take longer than planned. We therefore ask for prayers for wisdom and prosperity in all the work to be done.

Project Team
The project team for this renovation consists of Dick, Dirk Jan, Stefan, and Dirk-Jan.
Suzanna and Harry are closely involved.

We'll need people to demolish, lift, and transport the materials. Expertise, muscle power, and other resources are also needed for the construction of the spaces. We also need people, ideas, and funds for the finishing and furnishing of the spaces.
If you're available or have ideas or thoughts about this phasing and renovation, please contact the project team or church members, who can direct you to them. You can also reach us via the (general) contact form on this website.

fundraising

help!

A church relies on donations: money that people voluntarily contribute to cover the costs of staff, materials, and activities. To raise the funds for this renovation, we'd like to ask everyone to contribute.
Below, you can read what we're already doing – and where you can join us. We're always curious about more ideas and initiatives. You can share them with us via the contact form. You're also welcome to develop these ideas yourself. You can share the proceeds from your fundraising efforts via the QR code or payment link, or give cash to our treasurer.

Adopt these chairs

We're selling these 150 chairs. These chairs are from the 1950s, the year the church was first used. Who will buy these chairs and make a generous contribution to our project?

Not a cookie, but a piece of cake or pie with your coffee?
In upcoming services, members of the congregation will be baking delicious cakes and pies. You can enjoy these with your coffee or tea. In return and as an expression of appreciation for the baker of this delicacy, could you make a donation to the renovation, for example, via the QR codes displayed in the church hall?

Charity Dinner or Living Room Restaurant
Organize a living room restaurant (as a group) where the proceeds go towards the renovation of the CCG. Ask guests to donate generously. Deduct the cost of groceries. Transfer the remaining money to the CCG, stating "Renovation."
Tip: Choose dishes you already have experience with. Repeat the evening for different groups of people. Think of your colleagues, neighbors, family, and friends.
Keep in mind that you won't be able to be there yourself that evening. However, you will be helping others have a pleasant time together. People will be very grateful for that!
Rental of Spaces
We ask people who rent spaces in the CCG to make an additional donation, in addition to the amount they pay for the space rental.
We also ask them if the participants in their activities would also like to contribute to the CCG renovation by scanning the QR code displayed in the building.

Regular groups
We've contacted WIJ, Navigators, and the Groningen Student Association, among others, to ask them what opportunities they see for raising money for the CCG renovation.
